'Change for Me' - Collab with KibbieTheGreat by PhantomBadger 'Change for Me' - Collab with KibbieTheGreat by PhantomBadger

The finished collab between myself and the awesome :iconkibbiethegreat:

[19:27:25] KibbieTheGreat: DOTS! DOTS ERRYWHERE!
[19:27:46] KibbieTheGreat: and glowy eye thingy with tiny small dots
[19:27:56] KibbieTheGreat: KibbieTheGreat holds two thumbs up

Well, I asked Kibbie if he wanted to add anything about how he made the awesomeness of this, and that was what he put.
Now, lets see, I've been wanting to do a collab with someone for a while so I really put my all into this, I did the vector of Chrysalis and worked on the original composition of the piece, I then sent i to Kibbie where he went apeshit with some effects, dots, and that sexy-as-fuck Chrysalis eye.
When he sent it back I toned down the smoke so as to not draw attention away from the characters, lowered the saturation on the dots and messed around with their gradient to better suit the colour scheme and not be too dominating.
After an A-OK from Kibbie, here it is :D

Amazing Cadance vector by :iconaeroytechyon-x:

Let me know what you think, and if you'd be interested in seeing more collabs in the future :)

I do not own Cadance, Chrysalis, MLP or any associated products, they belong to Hasbro, Lauren Faust and any third parties.

I was searching though the list of deviations I hadn't looked at in the longest time, and I passed by this. Of all the ones that got me the most, it was this one. I really do like the simple yet, detailed and unique look, especially the uniqueness of the Changling queen lurking over cadence. While the two together is not a "unique idea" I feel the style done for this (almost as if she's more of a shadow than anything) is very well designed even distinguishing (+1 for impact).
Visually, the two things I would correct are the background (the design almost feels lacking in a sense, it works, and it's going on my computer once I finish this, but it feels as if it has more potential) I would criticize the black spaces for its lack of design, but since this is a wall paper, it compliments a good place to set Icons. The Bubble medium also feels a little too bright behind Chrysalis. And the aurora given off by the circle that is Chrysalis, feels overpowered by the white background and in a sense doesn't seem to match up with the darkness reflected on Cadence. (I hope that made sense)
In terms of originality, I like the way Chrysalis lurks over Cadence as a shadow, I guess kind of blending into the piece itself.
In terms of Technique, well, I don't exactly like the overused Cadence vector. I've seen the vector used way to often (Kind of cuts a little into my feel of originality because I've seen it all to often) I kind of wish she had her own design like Chrysalis. other than that, I've really got nothing.
In terms of impact? I was shuffling through 300 wallpaper pieces and after going through about half of them, this was the first thing that stuck out to me and I had to stop and say something: BAM. EPIC... Keep up the good work and Keep on artin

This is pretty good! I love the effects on the eye!
Though I would say-
The eye is really good, but it doesn't suit the rest. If the effects on the eye were also on the background, it would fit a lot better.
The background is lacking. I feel it would look a lot better if it was a fair bit darker and intimidating towards Cadance.
The vector of Cadance doesn't suit the way Chrysalis is looming over her. A scared or afraid vector would suit it a lot better, as well as a style similar to Chrysalis'.

I'd have to agree with you, I originally intended the background to be much darker and simpler. But as part of a collaboration, it's a visual representation of my simplistic style, and Kibbie's colourful and bubbly style merging.
I do intend one day to revisit this and try to make something darker with it, who knows ?

I think it looks great =) Only question is "Is this Chrysalis stalking Cadence just before she assumes control over Cadence's life?" I have always pondered what events led to Cadence ending up in the cave and Chrysalis assuming her life.

I wanted this to be interpreted one of multiple ways,
either the way you mentioned, where Chrysalis is just about to take over as Cadence and kidnap her.

Or, Chrysalis has already kidnapped and replaced Cadence, and the Chrysalis seen here is what we cant see due to the illusion of Cadence, which is why Chrysalis had suck a lack of features c:
