My Poor Photoshop, It was screaming during the making of this !

WALL OF TEXT INCOMING:

Now, since almost a year ago when I started pony art, I've toyed with the idea of making a parody of the poster for Metallica's Master of Puppets album. And it was only this week where I thought, "Why not ?" and so I set out to design and make this, and it was bloody hard.
As a start, I had to make a compromise with the text, as the original poster (seen here: [link]) has a wooden effect on the text, which I couldnt recreate without it looking terrible, so I instead tried to recreate the Marble-effect text seen on the album cover.
The text was actually made in Adobe Illustrator, as my Photoshop is too old to have 3D capabilities, unfortunately this means that it lagged the fuck out of the program whilst I was using it.
The gravestones were vectored, and unfortunately I couldnt get them to have the same 'angled' effect that the originals had without messing up the piece. I scaled down the amount of gravestones to 6 to represent the Mane 6, and then enforced this idea with Twilight's Crown/Tiara thingie instead of the soldier's helmet on the far left. I also toyed with the idea of inscribing the cutie marks onto the gravestones, but I felt this detracted too much from the original.
The grass was by far one of the hardest parts, and I ended up vectoring lots of blades of grass and then having some overlay layers to provide some variety and shading to the clump.
The sunset was actually me going way out of my comfort zone, as I more-or-less painted the clouds ontop of the gradient, using some old grunge brushes to give them a frayed edge.
The hands of Discord was a bit of a challenge and I did them both like 4 or 5 times before I was happy with them, using lots of references from the two episodes he was in.

The Master of Puppets album was actually the album that got me into Metal, and while it's not my favourite Metallica album, it's one of their most iconic imo.

Now time for the credits;

All credit for the original concept and design of the Master of Puppets poster/album cover go to Don Brautigam, Peter Mensch and Metallica.
All credit for Discord, My Little Pony and any associated products go to Hasbro, Lauren Faust and any third parties.

Please; Let me know what you think, I was also toying with the idea of releasing this as a shirt design, or a poster or something ;)

Awesome artwork, but shouldn't it technically be Master of Chaos instead of Master of Ponies?

Aye, but 'Master of Ponies' is closer to 'Master of Puppets,' the artwork this is a parody of ;p

The world seriously needs more metal-pony crossovers. There is a distinct lack of them in this fandom due to it's fans being much more involved in electronic music (the artistic ones, anyways).

That said, while this is great, I kinda don't like how the Mane 6 are depicted as dead, but it fits the theme. (E.G. ignore this little nitpick.)

Oh for sure :D I was tempted to make some album parodies, but I cant think of many that would fit amazingly and be feasible for me to create :p

And yeah, the Mane 6 graves was more done to allow a bit more of a connection between MLP and the original cover art, if that makes sense

Oh yeah, with the army helmet=Twilight's tiara. I totally get that, and it makes perfect sense. Actually, nothing else really seems to fit better.

(I'll probably switch-out the actual cover art with this on my music files.)

I myself am tempted to try morphing the cover art to Still Life with MLP when I get a stronger grasp on digital art, if ever. I kinda have an idea on how it'd look... Whether it'd actually turn out good, who knows. xD

I wish I could've fit more little references like that in, I was considering swapping the dog tags that are on the right Grave with one of the Element necklaces, but their design just didnt work with it :s

And go for it :D It's always good to set your goals high!
